NRPE 3.0 release now available

NRPE (Nagios Remote Plugin Executor) is an open-source project that allows you to remotely execute Nagios plugins on other Linux/Unix machines.

The newest release incorporates a number of new features, including:

  • Fixes for two security holes
  • Improvements to signal handling, stabilizing the program
  • Fixes to several crash and startup issues
  • Fixes to “allowed_hosts” processing problems
  • check_nrpe can now use an optional config file
  • Capabilities to handle packet sizes of up to 64KB
  • Capabilities for a larger payload size with NSClient++
  • Increased key size for Diffie-Hellman encryption
  • Ability to use public-key encryption by default if available
  • Ability to specify minimum SSL/TLS version
  • Ability to check and/or require client certificates
  • Expanded “make install” commands to create users and groups
  • Can configure, compile, install, and run on many more systems, including most Linux distributions, BSD, OS X, AIX, HP-UX and Solaris
  • Ability to use “-t <seconds>:<status>” format in check_nrpe
