Nagios informs you if there is a problem in your IT infrastructure. Opengear's IM4200 gateways and CM4000 console servers then enable you to rectify the problem, by providing you with secure access to and control of all the servers, routers, switches and power devices in your remote data centers.
Nagios provides central monitoring of the hosts and services in your distributed network. To integrate with Nagios Opengear's IM4200 gateways and CM4000 console servers have a NSCA client and NRPE server embedded. We automatically generate config files based on what services and devices are configured through the console server/gateway, and then automatcally schedule a round-robin check over a preset interval of all selected services. We also provide plug-ins to monitor serial connectivity, console logs and power status. And there's a compiler suite to allow embedding additional plug-ins into our firmware.
So the Opengear gateways and console servers act as distributed monitoring servers that carry out checks on behalf of the master Nagios server. They also provide secure in-band and out-of-band access to all the hosts and network devices. So you can take an alternate route to the problem equipment, through management consoles, management networks and dial-up and broadband failover networks, and then:
- access host serial consoles over local RS232 ports (Telnet, SSH etc)
- connect to network consoles over local Ethernet ports (HTTP, VNC, RDP)
- TCP and UDP access the host's service processors (IPMI, iLO, RSA)
- provide remote power cycling through service processors and intelligent power distribution units
- even have remote KVM connections through service processors or local KVM over IP appliances
In addition the gateways and console servers undertake local monitoring and logging so you have onsite resources for problem diagnosis and audit.

| So what can you do with Nagios + Opengear? |
 |
|
Nagios sends you an alert that something is wrong with a network services or host resource:
- A remote site has gone offline ... so you dialup the console server at the site (with callback), start a PPP
session and debug the router issues that triggered the disconnect
- An individual machine getting slashdotted ... so you use the IM4200's management network
to log in over SSH (using the SDTConnector client) and reconfigure Apache
- A machine is offline and with the console plug-in you immediately detect there is no handshaking ... so you remotely power cycle the machine using IPDU

- Affordably manage unlimited number of remote sites, each with hundreds of servers and appliances
- Secure in-band and out-of-band serial console access - TTY, Telnet, SSH, SoL
- Secure In-band and out-of-band network console access - HTTP, HTTPS, RDP, VNC and more
- Integrates with centralized enterprise management - Nagios, OpenManage, Conserver, MO, Openview
- Simple browser or command line management interface
- Local or remote access to headless servers and network devices
- Power management - remotely turn on, off and reboot equipment
- Multiplatform - Linux, Windows, Cisco, BSD, UNIX and SUN compatible
- Rock solid stability (optimized hardware and robust Linux software)
- Configurable open source Linux kernel and applications
- Automated alerts and alarm management
- Console logs maintained and archived off- line (Syslog, NFS, CIFS) for easy problem resolution
- Secure, encrypted access to remote systems - SSH, TACACS+, RADIUS, LDAP and PAP/CHAP authentication
- Port access can be restricted by password, account or IP address
- Multiple levels of filtering and access logging
- Unlimited users with multiple users per port
- Up to 50 concurrent SSH sessions (SDT tunnels) can be open at the one time
- Affordable solution to reducing costly MTTR and MTBF
- Compact solution with up to serial ports 1RU rack mount
The IM4200 gateways have all the features of the CM4000 plus high availability. It also gives administrators a single point of secure access for their remote management LAN:
- Centralized management gateway providing secure access for local and remote management
- A secure gateway to manage hundreds of serial and network connected servers and appliances
- Each gateway can port forward to an unlimited number of locally networked hosts (computers, routers)
- No limit on number of hosts being concurrently accessed through the one tunnel
- Limit user access by host device and service for that device
- Control of embedded BMCs and service processors - iLO, LOM, RSA, IPMI and more
- In built modem for out-of-band dial-in or heart-beat triggered dial-out
- 256MB storage for custom code, logging and local FTP/TFTP storage
- Dual source power supplies with auto failover
- Dual Ethernet for failover and broadband OoB access
